In addition to our regular squad training and matches, we also partner closely with Coach Pete's 'Diddy Dunkers'. This programme is designed to introduce children, aged 6 - 12, to the sport of basketball in a fun and supportive environment.

Pete Daines

Owner, Chair & Director of Coaching

Pete set up the Silverbacks in 2010 and followed up with Diddy Dunkers in 2014. He is also the assistant coach for Surrey Scorchers in the UK's premier professional British Basketball League, the BBL. Pete was Great Britain's U18 Team Manager, taking his team to 6 European Championships... and he has coached 8 school national champions.

He’s been recognised as South of England Basketball Volunteer of the Year, inducted into the Wessex Basketball League Hall of Fame, and is a former winner of the Eagle FM Radio station ‘Community Sports Hero of the Year’ for his work with the Silverbacks and national teams.

Pete is a former national league player, so it's no surprise that he still plays for the Silverbacks (in his own words he's "one of the oldest players in the league"). Harder to prove are his claims that he is the best passer in the league, and "probably the all-time league leader in assists". But, after 26 years of playing and coaching in the Wessex League, it's difficult to argue with him.

Outside of basketball, Pete's a huge sports fan. He especially loves to watch cricket, athletics, NFL, and football (he's a keen Liverpool supporter).

Corinne Brooks

Vice Chair, and Ladies & Junior Coach

Corinne's basketball journey began in 1984 during her sixth form at school, where she first discovered her love for the game. She continued to play at the University of Southampton, joining the Scarlet Ladies team and adopting the number 10, which remains her playing number to this day.

Post-university, Corinne played in the Solent League with a local team in Hythe. In 2004, Corinne moved to North Hampshire and joined the Camberley Basketball Club, where she reconnected with old teammates from various stages of her life. After the Camberley Club dissolved in 2014, she found a new home with the Yateley Silverbacks, where she played a key role in forming the new ladies team.

Corinne Brooks

Corinne began coaching the ladies team and juniors when her son started playing in 2017. With Pete's support, she established the U16 and later the U18 teams. She completed her formal coaching qualification and is now a certified Level 2 coach and Level 1 table official with Basketball England.

Corinne has enjoyed many highlights in her career, including an unbeaten run with the U16A team in the Bracknell CVL and a tour to the Czech Republic. Now, she has decided to shift her focus from playing to coaching the ladies team, U16 boys, and assisting with the U18 and younger players. While she will still train with the ladies and step in when needed, her primary goal is to contribute to the club's friendly and exciting environment as a coach.

Alex White
